The Escondido Fire Department is focused on preventing emergencies before they happen through education, prevention, and community engagement. We’re gathering community feedback to help us prioritize the fire safety and wildfire preparedness topics that matter most to you.

Why we’re asking

Education works best when it’s built around real questions from the community. Your feedback will help the Escondido Fire Department shape future outreach efforts... like home fire safety information, wildfire prevention outreach, and practical guidance that supports safer homes and neighborhoods.

What topics do you want to learn about?

We’d love to know what information would be most helpful for you and your household. Here are examples of topics we can build future content around:

Fire Safety at Home

  • Cooking safety and kitchen fire prevention
  • Smoke alarms: testing, placement, and replacement
  • Escape planning and what to do if there’s a fire
  • Electrical safety, candles, and space heater safety

Wildfire Preparedness & Defensible Space

  • Defensible space basics and maintenance
  • Home hardening: practical steps to reduce wildfire risk
  • Understanding vegetation clearance expectations and seasonal readiness
  • Where to start if you live near open space or in a higher-risk area

Preparedness & Community Risk Reduction

  • Building an emergency kit and plan
  • Evacuation readiness and alerting systems
  • Community education events and opportunities to learn in-person

Other

  • Insurance-related questions (what the Fire Department can explain, and where we can point you for more info)
  • Business fire safety and code compliance resources for property owners and tenants
  • Anything else you want to learn—tell us!

How we’ll use your feedback

We’ll use responses to:

  • Prioritize topics for future “how-to” content and safety reminders
  • Plan community presentations and learning opportunities
  • Improve how we share prevention information with residents
