Urban Forestry Management Plan
The City of Escondido received grant funding to develop an Urban Forestry Management Plan (“UFMP”). The UFMP will guide the care, maintenance, and growth of the City’s urban forest to help keep neighborhoods cool, shade paths of travel, and clean air and water, for future Escondido residents.
🌳 What is an Urban Forest? The urban forest collectively includes trees growing in parks, along streets, and in private yards and property.
According to the California Environmental Protection Agency, cities experience hotter temperatures than rural areas because of paved surfaces like asphalt and concrete which absorb heat during the day and release heat at night, raising temperatures around the clock. Planting, maintaining, and preserving urban trees can cool the city by absorbing heat and shading areas.
